The Muse & the Marketplace
Call for “A La Carte” PresentersPosted 9.30.13 Grub Street is currently soliciting “A La Carte” session proposals (formerly Hour of Power sessions) from presenters all over the country. We are looking for authors, editors, agents, publicists, and literary industry professionals with a compelling topic they’d like to share with a group of up to 50 aspiring and emerging fiction and non-fiction writers. You may lead a lecture with Q&A, a discussion class, a panel, a series of writing exercises, or a combination of the above. Accepted presenters receive free tuition to the conference on the day of their presentation, breakfast and lunch, and invitations to a private Kick-Off party. If you have books, we will sell those at the event. Please note that travel and accommodations are not included. To apply, fill out the submission form below by Monday, October 28th. Presenters will be notified by Monday, November 4th. We strongly suggest reading some samples of last year’s Hour of Power sessions as a guide. Any questions on the content of your presentations, please email email@example.com.
The Muse and the Marketplace 2014The 2014 Muse and the Marketplace national literary conference will take place May 2-4th at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston. Get pumped for over 110 craft and publishing sessions led by top-notch authors, editors, agents, and publicists from around the country. The Manuscript Mart-- the very popular and effective one-on-one manuscript reviews with agents and editors-- will be better than ever. We expect nearly 900 writers and publishing professionals to attend, while maintaining the conference's wonderfully intimate, "grubby" energy that we love. We'll be rolling out some awesome new features this year, including a Marketplace Clinic, Grub Geek Bar for writers to get on-the-spot tech help, and a "Digital Midway" fair in which writers can shop of wares of start-up publishing ventures. Also new is "LIT WEEK," akin to Restaurant Week or Fashion Week, in which Boston-area literary shops and restaurants will offer their own special events in the week leading up to the Muse. LIT WEEK is a wonderful opportunity for the public get a taste of Boston's literary scene. Details of the entire conference will be posted on this website starting in mid-January 2014. You'll have a couple weeks to read through the session descriptions and bios, select your top choices, and research the agents and editors participating in the Manuscript Mart. Late in January, we will open registration for Grub Street members only, who will get first pick of these options as well as deep discounts on conference fee, before we make registration available to all. We’re very excited for the Muse this year, and look forward to seeing you in May! Warmly,
The Grub Street Staff
